Rhode Island State Council of the Knights of Columbus
Formed in 1893, the Rhode Island State Council of the Knights of Columbus is the first State Council established in the Order. Our organization is dedicated to serving the Church and our community through the core principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.
Our Mission
Our mission is to preserve life, protect the family, and proclaim the faith. Guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church and the example of our founder, Blessed Michael McGivney, we are committed to leading with compassion and courage. As we navigate the challenges of today's world, we remain steadfast in our dedication to our core values, striving to make a profound impact in our communities and beyond.
What We Do
The Rhode Island State Council organizes and supports a wide range of programs and activities, including:
Charitable Works: Through initiatives like the Coats for Kids program, toy drives, Thanksgiving Basket donations, and Christmas Adopt-a-Family efforts, we provide critical support to those in need within our community.
Faith-Based Activities: We promote spiritual growth and religious education through programs like Holy Hours, Eucharistic Processions, and support for seminarians.
Community Engagement: Our councils actively participate in community events, from local parades and fundraisers to state-wide gatherings like the State Family Day and the State Charity Ball.
Patriotic Events: We honor our nation's heritage and support our veterans and active-duty military through various patriotic programs and ceremonies.
Life Programs: We are unwavering in our commitment to the sanctity of life. Our activities include supporting pregnancy centers, participating in pro-life marches, and educating the community about the value of life from conception to natural death. We also engage in prayer vigils and assist families and individuals facing life issues.
Leadership and Membership
Our council is led by a dedicated team of state officers and district deputies, supported by numerous local councils throughout Rhode Island. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to all Catholic men aged 18 and over. We encourage interested individuals to join us in our mission to make a positive impact on our communities.
